We here in the community of Parrsboro need to stick together & work together as always.. & in unity... As Parrsboro Residents should do & always have.. Hopefully! As we should "all" look towards what the future has to offer us here - especially for our children's future as it is them that counts & will continue our legacy.. As it is what we make of it now that will count for them.. If we do nothing then nothing will ever happen.. It is now that we should make a change for the better!
Not when it is too late!!!
That is why we are known as: "A Small Town with Such A Big Heart."
So lets finally build a Family Rec. Centre as it should have been built years ago & so very much more...
Please Remember: "Parrsboro Will Always Rock In Our Hearts & With So Many Others" Only if we are "all" willing to make the change here in our area.

Journal for May 8, 2006-It was a beautiful, sunny weekend here in Parrsboro. My husband, Troy and I trekked up to Ward's Falls on Friday night. This was the first time for me going back to the falls. It is a 3.5 km walk in but and a little exhaustive when packing sleeping bags, food, tent, etc.. but it was well worth the effort. The falls are breath-taking and the walk in is a lazy one for sure, as a river flows all the way through your hike in. There are bridges to cross and you cannot not help to sit on a few of them along the way if not to just have a break, you will certainly feel compelled to relax on them with your feet swinging over the edge and just sit and take in the serenity. It's a great way to spend a day or more in the beauty of our natural landscapes.

I guess the joke was on us...
Wow! What a great time to live in the beautiful town of Parrsboro. Older individuals in this community remember well Parrsboro's thriving history and for years, those of us of younger generations have heard so much about this town when it was a main shipping port and there were businesses and industries galore. We all tried to imagine that life and all that we had left to go on was our imaginations, vague remanants of years gone by and photographs of the town's glorious past. Parrsboro has desperately needed to be revitalized and to ponder of such a thing actually taking place would have seemed to be just a dream.
Well, that dream has come true. For those who had to leave their hometown and families and move away for employment and livelyhood over the years and for those who have stayed and floated along with the dismal decrease in businesses and prosperity, all the prospects of Parrsboro becoming a boomtown is like the hugest christmas present ever thanks to Kerry Martens and his love and gratitude for this town. Our great, little town will become I believe an even greater, bigger town. The next couple of years will be an ideal time for all those who have wanted to make their own dreams come true. Maybe you always wanted to have your own small business and reap the benefits of your skills or aspirations. Now is the time to make those dreams come true, it is literally open territory in this town which has lost so much over the years and now has the potential to build itself up fully in the near future. Dream and dream big!
Show your Parrsboro Spirit and remember that Parrsboro Rocks!

We think that this "New" Bay of Fundy Tidal Power Project that has been just announced that is a go now by Nova Scotia Power is great and Parrsboro has alot to gain by this project...It's just what we need here in Parrsboro especially after what H.G.I. did to us...Hats off to you Nova Scotia Power as this is great for the enviroment and Global Warming.

"The idea is for the community to prosper!! Concentrate on improvements - Everyone should be supporting local business."
From: Parrsboro's Very Own Speakers Corner at facebook.com...
We need to support our local businesses, not destroy them or promote other out of town businesses in putting our existing businesses in town out of business, especially when all the businesses in town have fought hard to stay open to provide service to the town & it's citizens.
We as a community need to have unity and stick together in all good or bad situations and to help one another when needed as Parrsboro should always do or we as a community will turn into a ghost town.
Alot of this is related to these issues:
Give The Garbage Bussiness To Greg Matthews! - Facebook Site Chk it out especially their wall posts - very interesting...
Description of this site is:
My Father Has Collected Garbage For People In Parrsboro For Over 10 years! And Now Doug Robinson And Ashley Brown Have Put It into taxes So They Can Make A Buck! They Have Put it Up For Bid, Meaning Anyone Can Bid On It. IT IS NOT A PRIVATE BUSINESS ANYMORE, PBS From Amherst And Larry Strong Have Shown Intrest. IF MY FATHER DOESNT GET THE CONTRACT, HE MAY POSSIBLY GO OUT OF BUSINESS. Something Needs Done!
The other issue is the garage at Crossroads - This is something else that is much needed in the town and is also being shot down in every way but the garage was there for years with others and there was never any issues then so why all of a sudden now?
Also the Mounties are coping with staff shortage & rising crime...Why?
“We’re running short, and a lot of all-day shifts are all we can do said Cst. John James... We have never had this problem before...So why now?
So my question is what can, or should be done to help the community in whole on these issues...As we need to survive and thrive not fail and collapse into a retirement home...Lets look out for the younger generation of the town and proudly give them a thriving community not a retirement home to visit!

Do you think there is a problem?????
Please leave your comments on the Speakers Corner Page of this website....Love to hear your comments.
This is a quote from Dawn Reid:
Heya Troy...I just saw your question about do you think Parrsboro is high in crime ...(On facebook.com-Parrsboro's very own speakers corner) Well I think that no...?? not compared to larger places or even to River Hebert but being a victim for the last 3 years of someones juvenile pranks at my home...I have reported it to the RCMP and what can they do...nothing unless they are around to see it...When I reported it one of the officers made me feel as though I was the bad guy. Eastern Ave is not a good place on the week ends especially on Saturday night. I know who has been doing it...the RCMP know who has been doing it. But it is catching them and its happening after 2am...Especially when there is no on duty presence. It is getting to the point that if I catch them they are going to be sorry.
But I do think that this town needs 24 hour RCMP coverage. After 2am you could drive a tractor trailer full of drugs down town and unload them on Main St. No one would be the wiser!
Troy I just want to compliment yourself and Crystal for all of the great things that you are doing on here and for the town. You should be commended for everything. You both are great people. Take care....Dawn :) PS...thanks for letting me vent!
Dawn Reid
I must agree 100% with Dawn on this matter as I'am also a resident of Parrsboro also and a Business owner who is out and about almost 24 hours a day see and hear of things too...and I must admit that most of the crimes happen after 12am at night and will continue to as long as "everyone knows" that there is no police presence at night...
I also feel that there is too much drinking and driving going on in Parrsboro as well and I'am very scared as a citizen that there is going to be a bad accident or many that is going to cause much unneeded heartache and grief for some families if it keeps up...I'am only saying this because I see it and I'am concerned the same as anyone else would be..."Please do not drink and Drive"...As it will not be you that you hurt it will be the other family...You will have to live with it though the rest of your life...So think wisely.

Nothing here in Parrsboro has ever changed since I was a teenager and I agree totally with all that have come forward and posted their comments even if no one else wants to speak of this matter...Why? It should be addressed as it has always been a problem at least since I was a child here in Parrsboro.
I have always thought that there should be something more here in Parrsboro at least for the teens to do...or go to...and be able to get into so they too can enjoy and love Parrsboro....
So my question is why is there still nothing here for the teens?
Why is there no place for the teens to go and hang out - rec center - bowling alley - dance hall - pools - beach events - town fun days, BBQ's, Picnics, Camping - roller skate rink - movie theater (building that shows new or old movies) examples the new ships company theatre building, lions center, etc. all you need is a big screen t.v. or etc. and maybe then the teens do not have to be blamed or picked on & will have something to do on the weekends and over the summer.
This is just a few suggestions and ideas above that could have been put in place years ago or even "Now" to help all of our teens in growing up here in Parrsboro.
And yes Alex I also agree that there are problems with the following that you posted above: There Are Numerous People out There With Black Boxes Selling Dope, Driving Drunk or Too Fast... and yes they are not always the teens doing it...They are people who should know better and should be setting a better examples to all of the teens here in Parrsboro...and yes nothing ever seems to be done about those matters...Only the Teens situations...Again Why?
December 7th,2007.
I wish that people would open their eyes and see what Parrsboro does have to offer in which I see and alot of others that live here see too!
I hear it everyday especially from the tourists.
If only more people would come out of the woodwork and show support for our town and come up with more ideas to promote the town and bring it alive again and actually put them into play for the town then maybe our town will prosper again instead of it's situation now.
But yes as I have said before on our website people here have to "all" work together and stop the selfishness in being just "one" and turn this little town around...I know everyone in one way or another loves it here or at least has loved it here so why let it go...Everyone can do their part to bring it alive again and make Parrsboro a wonderful little town again with the "Big Heart"...Remember "Parrsboro Rocks".

These are some comment from some of the campgrounds guests:
I THINK IT IS VERY SAD THAT THEY CALLED THE RCMP ON A 75 YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO WOULD NOT PAY $3.50 TO GO SEE FRIENDS !!! IMAGINE THE RCMP HAD TO COME FROM TRURO MORE THAN $3.50 IN GAS FOR THAT TRIP AND IT WAS STUPID. WHERE DO THEY THINK THE DAM CAMPGROUND IS ANY WAY.

Hi all:
How is everyone? Has anyone had any response from BG owners re: refund. I hope they do not think that ignoring my demand for refund sent by my attorney, will make me go away. They breached my contract and ruined over half of my summer and i plan to be compensated financially. Court should be a circus because I really think that they do not realize they are doing anything wrong to us stupid Maritimers.
PS.
Has anyone checked on Arlene? How is she doing?

There was a fatal single vehicle accident in Moose River involving a tractor trailer on Monday July 30th,2007.
Arlie Campbell, the driver of the truck was the only fatality in the crash due to having a severe heart attack.
We feel bad for Arlie and all his family, Our Sincere Sympathys go out to all of you in this time of need.
Arlie was a local taxi driver & Owner here in Parrsboro for many years until he had to quit the taxi business because of health & financial reasons...
The accident happened around 6am and the road up to moose river was blocked off all day from noon to around 8:30pm until being re-opened.
This is a very tragic event that took place in our home town and again our deepest sympathy goes out to all the family.
I have known and was friends with Arlie & his family for years and he did provide this town and area with a valuable service when he was running a taxi business here for a good number of years...He just got back into what he loved best (Trucking) and was enjoying it to the fullest (until this tragedy) as this is what he just told me just a few weeks ago.

Campbell, Arlington G. – 58, of Parrsboro passed away suddenly on Monday, July 30, 2007 in Moose River. Born in Havelock, N.B., he was a son of the late Eddison and Nina (Perry) Campbell. He was employed as a truck driver, most recently working with Central Freightlines of Truro. Previously he operated Campbell’s Taxi in Parrsboro and worked at Scott Paper Mill, Parrsboro. He is survived by his companion, Patsy (Forbes) Weatherby, Parrsboro; a daughter, Jennifer Campbell, Calgary; a son, Scott (Lorna Collins), Moncton; former wife, Verlie (Hall) Campbell, Sussex; 4 grandchildren. There will be no funeral service by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of choice.
If there was a will and a way Arlie would always get you there and would always pick you up....and he did with myself and alot of my friends years ago many a time...
These last days of Arlie's life...he seemed so content and happy to be doing what he loved...Trucking!!! He told me so many times since he started back at it...but he loved the taxi just as much he last told me.
Our thoughts and our prayers go out to you Patsy & Arlie's family...He will be sadly missed.

Headz Games Company coming to Parrsboro I guess "it was too good to be true"
By now I guess we all know the bad news...
Anyways I know it's been hard for some but we all need to hold our heads up high people... We still have alot to be proud of here and always have.
We have a beautiful town and this guy Kerry Martens will feel very sorry one day that he pulled a scam on a small town here in Nova Scotia or he never came through for us here and as a matter of fact what about Bill Perry who was his friend we have to feel bad for him & all the other staff that was hired and as well as the other businesses that were stung too!!!
But life does and will go on in this small lovely town we have here on the Bay of Fundy.
I only hope this guy Kerry Martens knows how many hopes & Dreams that he has broken for us all here but then again...I guess we all probably already knew this may not happen or again It's too good to be true!!!
Anyways Feel Proud Parrsboro!!!
As Parrsboro was here long before H.G.I. & Kerry Martens and will be here long after H.G.I. is gone....One Year Now.

"November 2007 storm in parrsboro N.S."
I think we were very lucky and I believe we are very lucky most of the time here in Atlantic Canada when it comes to the weather.. When it comes to most of these storms as it always seems to be much much worse everywhere else in the world than it is here.. So I think we should count ourselves very lucky when it comes to the weather here...
- Tropical storm noel hits parrsboro nova scotia..
A lobster fishing boat owned by Boo Wood had to be moved away from the Parrsboro Pier as it was banging off the side of the warf and could have damage the boat if left there.
Many trees and limbs also collapsed on Eastern Ave. Beaverdam Rd. and Two Island Rd just to name a few and they pulled down many power lines & even twisting poles at the end of Western Ave. putting much of Parrsboro and Areas in the dark and also keeping the power crews busy...
Many homes & businesses as of today Nov. 5th/07 are still without power.. Many homes and buildings & fences suffered alot of damage due to the storm too...

I must say it is a job well done but the public works department should start clearing snow earlyer in the morning before heavy traffic starts or wait untill that night when activity is at a stand still therefore the risks of a traffic accident is decreased... im sure the town of parrsboro can afford to pay a little bit of over time.
You wrote

I must say I have to agree with you Brian on that subject as it has been many a disscussion to many people who cannot under stand why the town doesn't clean the main street area after everything closes or at least before they open like most of the other towns do... As it would be much safer and you would think it would be more benificial to them without having to contend with all the traffic and cars parked and people walking around.
Another Example of what is not appreciated here in Parrsboro... And people wonder why things are vanishing here.. Just my opinion...

It seems like a great thing for the area as of the moment. But what many people neglect is that what is this going to do in the long run. What is going to happen to the ecology of the area, the tides, coasts and ocean overall. Many people forget that there is more to the ocean than water, there are thousands of organisms that depend on this to survive, and who are we as humans to destroy it for our gain. We need to remember that we have only been around 1/9 billionth of the entire history of the Earth. We are stewards of the land, not its users. We need to look at the broader scope here and think of the long term effects this will cause. Sure this seems like a perfect solution to Global Warming, but what is the sense of preseving something that might not be here because of our preservation efforts. This quote seems to fit " In the end we will only conserve what we love. We only love what we understand. We only understand what we are taught" Babia Dioum~Senegalese ecologist. I am only starting this disscussion as I feel a discussion is needed by "all" of us that are living here now that care about the town enough to help everyone in it come up with ideas and suggestions on how to solve all the problems that we "all" face in this world as it is today but also to the youth that are growing up & to the children that will have to grow up in our small town now and down the road.
There have been many promises of bigger and better things to come to Parrsboro & Area in the past and there was also some hope of a boost to Parrsboro's self image only to be shattered over and over again...to save our town, But we as a close community need not to think of disaster or failure but what we "all" can do together with great ideas or suggestions that this whole world has been built on to bring our town & area alive again not to wait for someone else to come in and save us... It will never happen!!!
We here and for the ones who are now away and far away still love this community in one way or another.. Even if some of us are heard saying I hate Parrsboro!!! We really don't we grew up here had alot of our great times here in our life & yes some bad "but" we "all" have to take the good with the bad, that is life!!!
I have heard time and time again in the last 4+ years ( I would come back if only there was a job for me) and I think this town would boom in population if only we could just promote Parrsboro to be a interesting place for a business to come set up and give them the reasons they need... or maybe more of us need to start our own smaller businesses here to actually make this a tourist town such as for example: Cavendish P.E.I. - We could have everything they have there and more which people flock to all the time.. We need attractions to bring the people & families here to be able to give them something to do & see & also let them learn how rich in history Parrsboro & area was & still can be... Example of this history can be seen on our main website at: http//www.tandctaxi.piczo.com and go to the history page.
I am committed to being an advocate for Parrsboro & "all" it's people from seniors to our youth & future generations...
I feel there is alot of problems in Parrsboro such as: Not Enough Businesses & Jobs & With Drugs, Alcohol and Sex I believe it is not only with the Youth in Parrsboro (which always seems to get pointed out) but also with Adults here too.. Which have been around alot longer than the youth and in my opinion the youth see it learn it from their peers.. I know as I grew up here in Parrsboro too and also learned alot of good and bad things from alot of the peers and older people.. I always say: "what you see is what you do" maybe I am wrong about this but children learn only what is taught to them or what they see or grow up around.
I think at times the whole town as well as the people who had to move away from their home town suffers from a sense of low spirit about our town.. But we still love it and we have also loved to hate it and we blame it as well for all our problems at times but deep down we are proud as hell of it...As we should be its our heritage!!!
This is where we enjoyed life with our families and met friends as well as had our first dates, parties, drove for the first time etc.
So what can we do as a Community of Families, Friends, Co-workers, Business Owners, Community Leaders, Groups & anyone I missed but especially "YOU" to help this Small Town With A Big Heart overcome all it's problems to once again allow Parrsboro To Rock???
I do believe that a Community Center as well as A Daycare Facility is very much needed here in Parrsboro "Now" not 10 years from now as one has been needed for many many years now as there was never anything here when I was a child either but was needed then as well...
There always should have been a place for the families and youth to go such as: A pool, gym, a place for family events youth events dance area or just a place to hang out with their friends, etc...
Just what should be here that at one time use to be here not just places for the adults to go as it has been for many years... But hats off to the Lions for what they have done and still do...
If you have comments or views on this topic.. Please leave comments on the board below or leave them on our speakers corner page.. Thank You

I agree with what you say Troy. We need jobs . With jobs people will come back to Parrsboro. Bring in a recreation center, Swimming pool. With a swimming pool everyone could use it. It is wonderful for arthritis and has a lot of other health benifits. But of course we seem to be away behind other towns for some reason.
I think it would be a great idea to have our council join this site. That way they will see what we want and need.

"A Great Day For Democracy Education"
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2008.
Yesterday I had the opportunity, along with the other candidates in the riding, to attend a debate/question and answer session for Parrsboro High School students. The students have hosted events such as this in previous elections and I am always happy to visit to discuss the issues.
Some may ask why would you go to a high school where the majority of students can't vote? The answer is simple. Young people need encouragement to get involved in the issues and vote when they are old enough to do so. Education is the best way to beat voter apathy.
The event was part of the mock election that the school, along with many others in the riding and the country, run as part of the Student Vote program. The program is open to students from elementary right through to highschool. If you are curious about the program click on the title of the post and it will take you to the program's website.
The students raised a number of issues but the ones that dominated their questions and comments were the environment and jobs in rural Canada. Many wanted to know how they could get jobs in the area when they are finished school since rural areas such as theirs have a high unemployment rate. Some of the students tied this economic development issue in with the environment and questioned whether Parrsboro would be well placed to bring in trades and industries that support a greener environment. Many questioned what kind of jobs they could see from projects such as Tidal power.
It was a great session and I really enjoyed the input of the students. If we don't listen to what they want to see in terms of economic development in rural areas, we won't be able to keep them working at home.
Prior to the event at the high school I met with the Parrsboro and Area Board of Trade for their luncheon where I was very well received.

"Message delivered - Bill Casey returned to Ottawa by biggest margin of victory ever"
Oct.15th,2008.
The voters of Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley put the candidate in front of the party on Tuesday returning maverick MP Bill Casey to Ottawa with his largest margin of victory ever.
"I feel they sent a message," Casey said moments after being re-elected for the fifth time, but first as an Independent. "They want their members of Parliament to be able to stand up on the issues that affect their riding and not be put in the position I was. They want their MPs to represent the people to Ottawa not Ottawa to the people. The question will be will anyone hear that message and will they listen?"
Casey, who was kicked out of the Tory caucus in June 2007 for voting against the budget, was declared re-elected less than 30 minutes after the polls closed amassing nearly 70 per cent of the ballots cast.
The Brookdale resident, who beat prostate cancer earlier this year, was elated with the win.
"It feels wonderful. I'm so happy for the people who have worked so hard in this campaign," Casey said. "It's a people's win because there is no party involved. It's just individuals who worked so hard on this in Cumberland, Colchester and Halifax counties."
Heading into the campaign, Casey was confident of his chances of being re-elected, but he was not sure how the voters would respond to the stance he took.
"There was never any doubt in my mind about whether I took the right stand or not, but I didn't know whether the people would support me after being evicted from the party," Casey said, adding he has had numerous people of all political stripes approach him to tell him they were supporting him.
With the election behind him, Casey intends to continue doing what he has always done since being first elected in 1988 and re-elected in 1997.
"My role will be to represent the people of this riding as I always have, that won't change. I intend to continue doing that and using all the tools at my disposal to make that happen," said Casey, adding he feels he can continue to be effective as an Independent. "In the last few years this riding has accomplished more than any other riding. We have had tremendous support from Parks Canada, ACOA, Agriculture Canada and a wide range of departments. I would have no reason to believe why that wouldn't continue."
Longtime Casey supporter Frank Elliott couldn't be happier that his friend has been re-elected.
"I couldn't be happier. It's fantastic. We have sent a message to Ottawa that we've been sending this guy there for 20 years and he does a good job," Elliott said. "I never had a doubt in my mind that he would win. When the writ was dropped, the people flocked to him and the money came in to support the campaign."
Susan MacDonald said Casey's re-election says a lot about his integrity.
"The people have a lot of respect for Bill. He's such a strong, wonderful man," said MacDonald, who worked as an assistant for Casey for several years. "He will do a wonderful job as an Independent because he has the ability to work with everybody. If anyone can be an Independent and do a good job at it, it's Bill."
Fellow Independent, Cumberland North MLA Ernest Fage, was not surprised with the result, saying he ensured his re-election with his defending the Atlantic Accord and sticking up for Nova Scotia's interests.
"Bill had a lot of people on his side of all political stripes," Fage said. "People decided to band together and give him an overwhelming victory."
Quote from article:
Still, Kane said that according to one of the country's biggest think tanks, Canada is not bound for a recession.
I'am from Atlantic Canada - Yes!! - "We are here & will always be here and yes we are a part of Canada" but we are often forgotten... I just wonder where Kane is from (from quote in this article) as here in the Atlantic Provinces we have been in a recession here for a long time.. Well before the trouble in the stock market.. It has been ever since everything has been going out to the West.. and I guess now after this election it still will be.. I just wish we had more Bill Casey's in Gov't.. Maybe then there would be at least a equal Country and not split up like it is now.. Please everyone do not play blind.. As everyone can make a difference everywhere.. But I will be and will always try to be a Proud to be a Canadian!!!

I myself look at what is happening in the World, Country & Cities and I do not have to guess long.. Ya see it in the news everyday.... Do not see much talk on what is good for anyone... You can be your own judge on that as I was raised in the cities and in the rural areas of this country and I will always choose the rural over the cities as here you can be or are somebody in a city you are just a... You can answer that yourself...
Do not take for granted what we have in rural areas as it all can be lost to what..... More money... Well lots of money means nothing if you do not have Happiness, Peace, Families, Fun, Family, Friends, tranquility & the list goes on.. You cannot get this from a city... Just a thought to think about.
This country would not be what it is today without the rural areas..
That is why everyone has to think first before turning their backs on rural communities to go to cities and always to the more paying money jobs in other areas especially the West.. Just take a moment and think.. What can I do or what can think of to make a difference to change what is going on or happening in my community instead of giving up and saying see ya.....

Karen Yorke-Gilbert wrote:

I miss the days of outdoor skating on the Aboiteau it felt so wonderful and exhilarating to skate in the wide open space for the length of the canal.
So many people would come out to skate for the day and into the evening. sometimes there would be a bonfire on the bank and of course Berry's Coffee Shop was open then and we would go in for hot chocolate and to warm our toes and fingers!
The Parrsboro Fire Department was very helpful they would flood the ice and test it to make sure it was safe. Volunteers would keep the snow cleaned off on a regular basis.
What I am getting at here is....I would like to see the outdoor skating on the Aboiteau Canal revived!! This is a good time to start it up again because we have a new eager council and people are enthusiastic to see Parrsboro improve in many ways. We need to create our own ideas and plans, and then ACT on them.
I am putting this out here on Facebook because I want to seriously pursue getting this up and running this winter. I would like to have some volunteers to help me. Just to make phone calls and help link us up with some folks who can help with cleaning/flooding the ice and someone who may have a connection with the Fire Department etc etc. It really won't take much once it gets started...and I know everyone in our gorgeous little town will enjoy it immensely!
Please if you are interested let me know so we can work together on this.
All feedback is welcome and will be considered.
Thank you very much.

Winston Kinnie
I do not know about the mayor of parrsboro but the one we have here in Hrm and the dozen or so councellors seem to always be bickering over cats, should they have a license, a leash, safety sticker or whatever as if nothing else important so good luck there in parrsboro Troy.
Crystal Melanson
Yes, Uncle Winnie, I read that in the paper & hear it on the radio all the time about the cat problem. There was something I heard last year on the radio, can't rememeber what the heck it was now, and I thought how riduculous this is getting. And, yes, surely there are more important issues to work out.
Vincent Kennie
Troy like I said before you definitely have my vote and with a beautiful, intellengent and dedicated woman backing you, how can you go wrong, you will do the town good, go at it young and give it your best shot!!!!!
Uncle Vince

Hey, Thanks Uncle Vince. Though I am a very humble sort - perhaps, too humble & don't easily except compliments (Troy can testify to that)- it's nice to be able to support not only my hubby, but anyone with a purpose for the good of all. I make a good sounding board, and sometimes can come up with a good idea or two. Again, thanks.

Gleneida Canning
Hi Troy... it's good that you're running.... are you running for mayor or councillor if a seat becomes vacant. Could you please be more specific regarding the changes you intend to make, and how you will carry them through. How would you go about bringing more businesses to town. What would be your plan?
Vincent Kennie
Gleneida, that is a good question, I am sure that Troy has thought about this and once he outlines his platform and looks for input then he will formulate a viable plan, keep in mind that he will have to work with the locaL MLA to get
additional funding from our NDP government, should they still be in power. When I visit Parrsboro, I see so much potential just wasting away, i.e the local blueberries being shipped to other places for processing, if we had better roads from Southampton to Parrsboro then more visitors would be in this
small beautiful town. I have lived in every province except Sasketchewan and I must say the town of Parrsboro is a diamond in the rough, just waiting to be polishjed.
Give it your best Troy, maybe you should form a committee of the local populas to come up with ideas..... Read More
Take care
Troy Melanson
Thank you all for the comments as that is what counts.. :-)
As for what I will be running for: It will be a councior if a seat becomes available.
I have given it much thought and though I would love to run for Mayor I feel I would be more of a benifit to the people in being their voice in concil first as a councilor then maybe run for Mayor down the road when I am more experienced.
First of all I feel that there is alot of ideas and concerns within the community and area that never seem to get addressed and there have been alot of deccissions made without getting everyone in the community to have a say or at least have a part in the deccissions being made for "All" of us.
ie. Leigh wheaton's idea of making Parrsboro a Winter hot spot (Snowmobiling & etc.) is a fine example of what we are missing out on...... Read More
I must also agree Parrsboro "Needs" new businesses & jobs.. I feel that there could be alot more effort put into going after all level's of Gov't to get grants, funding, & to go after whatever can be offered to this area to keep the people here instead of having to move away for jobs and also to allow the children to have a place to come back to after their schooling is complete.
I do believe that Parrsboro is one of the finest places to live & visit & not taken for granted & allowed to dissapear.
I will have more to say and add on my ideas and plans in the coming days leading to the election.
If I have the chance to get elected as councilor - For now all I can tell you that if elected I will work the hardest anyone can for the people of Parrsboro & will be their strong voice in council to bring forth the ideas & concerns of the community.
I have always had a strong feeling for this community and it has never diminished - I only want the best for Parrsboro & all Parrsboronians.

Vincent Kennie
First lay out a platform and let the people of Parrsboro get behind you, like you stated there is a lot to offer, it just
has to be presented and culavated. With your strong desire and work ethic how can you and the people of this quaint little town lose.
GO FOR IT ALL THE WAY...
Troy Melanson
Thanks Vincent.. :-)
That is my intention now & in the days leading up to the election.. If a council seat becomes available.. But I will be ready & if not there is always the nxt time.
Troy
Vincent Kennie
BTW when is the election being held?
Lori Irene Gilbert
Good luck to you, but don't be disillusioned, its not a councillors job to make change its the citizens job, if people want change they will form groups and make change, I live in a village which is part of a township, the things that happen here, happen because of citizens not council. So don't get ideas that being a councillor changes the world, ... Read Moreremember as a councillor you have only one vote and one voice, If the people of Parrsboro wanted, I mean truly wanted change, change would happen, where is the energy? Where are the people? Don't get me wrong I love Parrsboro, but there is a certain statuesque, that has always been there, and all the councils or Mayors in the world will not change it. Troy if you want change I think you may be going about it in the wrong way, decide what you want to change and do it , hold a meeting see who turns us, form a group and just do it. You may be surprised who shows up and who does not. Don't get me wrong I think its good to see young people and young energy in politics at any level, but don't be disillusioned of what the job really is and what limitations it comes with, once you are a politician your hands are tied tighter than as a citizen. So good luck, my best advice, sit down with some past councillors have a coffee and ask them what it was really like? If you still want to go for it then give it all you got...
Troy Melanson
As far as I know right now all nominations for Mayor have to be in by Nov.5th - Then they will be announced.. Then on Nov.6th the seats for council if any can be submitted.
Vincent Kennie
Troy go for it, don't let all the negatism affect your decision
get your feet wet and do your best, yes Parrsboro is behind other small towns, however with the attitude that you have
it will not be hard to get real dedicated people on your side

This is not verified yet!
Only Talk so far..
P.S. No worries Vince if a seat becomes available I will be going for it.. & in my opinion to the negativity.. I say one person may not... Read More be able to change a town or a world and that was not my intentions "but" If one has the voice, the will & strength along with the visions of the people than Yes! a change can be made if it is wanted bad enough!
Donna Wasson
Well I am getting a kick outta the comments and questions you are getting already Troy! See what will be coming your way? I think you will do a wonderful job and don't be discouraged. One day at a time! Parrsboro needs some young blood and someone like you and your wife who really care about the community. GO FOR IT!
Troy Melanson
I myself would like to see something for the Families & children of Parrsboro such as a Recreation Centre that can have "all" events and activities held in.
ie: dances, bowling, games room, canteen, movie room, daycare.. Just to name a few.
This has been so much needed in Parrsboro for years & there still is nothing here - There are many towns elsewhere that have received funding and grants for this.. Why not us!!!
2nd - We need to get after all levels of Gov't to finally finish the roads in and out of Parrsboro so people will come to this area and the people of the town are not damaging their vehicles costing them huge repair bills that most cannot afford.
3rd - I also believe there is a strong need for "new" and affordable housing in Parrsboro.... Read More
Again other communities are getting money for all these needs.. & again why not us!!!

Hello everyone. I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that the trail is being looked into and has been for quite sometime. And we are not just looking into a snowmobile trail but walking trails. I personally have invited the Snowmobile club in twice for them to speak to us but they have not made it in yet.I have made communication with Lynn Yorke who is a member of the snowmobile club and have heard the issues that have been holding up getting access to the gas station, bed and breakfasts and all the other stores in town. The snowmobiles do get as far as the Tavern. I have taken a personal interest in working on this and have been doing so since last year. I also sit on the Recreation committee who has just completed a recreation strategy for the town's recreation department. Trail development and green spaces is one of the issues that are being addressed. Also it is not the Town council that has held up this development it is actual private land owners that do not want snowmobiles on their land. This is from any information that I have received. And council can not force people to turn their land over for any reason like wanting a trail.Unfortunately ..these ideas have been publicly announced at open council on a couple of occasions and talked about openly at the committee of the whole which are both open to the public. And everyone has got a say in the community....but the only person who ever attends council meetings is the press.Occasionally we do get in someone who wants to present us with something...but not often...and once they are done..off they go. It is really unfortunate that more people don't get out and take part in their town council meetings more because in reality...it is YOUR town. Even when the Police advisory committee sets up talks with the RCMP with issues that the Towns folk have mentioned that they want addressed...No one ever shows up...except the same few people.I am not saying that we are perfect as a council...but I will assure you that all of the council are working hard on the behalf of ALL Parrsbronians to make this a better town for everyone. There have been occasions when even the council get frustrated...but we work on that and move forward.
For everyone's information We have Committee of the whole every Third Tuesday of the month at 6pm......
Regular council; meetings are every fourth Tuesday at 7pm.....always at the town hall and ALWAYS open to the public.I agree with Lori's comments...change is not just up to the town council and Mayor...they can certainly help reach goals of the community, but she is right, people need to get involved instead of sitting on the side lines complaining. Come out and find out what the Town is doing and working on
I just saw a post about the roads to...just to let everyone know that there are about 12 roads in Parrsboro that are going to be paved in the next few weeks.
Thanks!

It is up to council & citizens to make a community healthy & want thrive for growth - I'd hate to think that anyone would be under the "dissillusionment" (yes I am quoting) that it is not so. People working together makes for change. Ideas that turn into goals with people working toward them are what not only makes a community stronger, but preserves them from sinking like a ship into gray waters. Doing nothing, doesn't help. Standing by and watching opportunities pass us by, gets us nowhere. I fully support & stand behind my husband not because he is my husband (though he is endearing), but because he is a determined soul. He doesn't want this town to die out. He is not alone on this point. We plan to live our lives out here & I suspect that many of you do, too. Or perhaps you like to visit, or stay in town for the weekend or take a vacation here. Maybe you'd like to move here and live as we have done, maybe you'd like to see the town thrive year-round and not just during the summer months. And then find yourself asking: What for? I'd have to travel to work. There's nothing open. The roads are bad leading into Parrsboro. There is nothing to do. And yes, I'll say it, we have an unbearable stench stewing in the harbour in the summer months, that could-should have been rectified before now.
I don't know if any of these issues can be fully fixed even in the next decade, but we have to try, don't we?

LOL.....I must just correct something I said earlier...when I read it last night it looked all right..but this morning it doesn't sound right...sorry...I had said that
"change is not just up to the town council and Mayor". That is incorrect. It is up to them...just not alone. And my previous entry is just to explain that it is not just as easy as some may think to just go and change the trails and things like that.
I am very excited about this election. It is my understanding that if a council seat becomes available we have some pretty great people going to run....Troy being one them. I do wish you good luck and it is great that we do have people that are passionate about our wonderful town.
Thanks
Dawn

Certainly the time has come for younger poeople to come forward and be part of the Town of Parrsboro's future. There is wealth of talented people with great ideas and unrealized potential. Troy is one of them and there are many more. The catch phrase of the day should be Don't just vote for the change be poart of the change in the Town's future."

One person can do a lot Troy, if only they have the conviction. Thou I do believe that the only way that Parrsboro can be sustainable & create change in the economic & cultural scenes is if Parrsboronians engage in the well-being of their families & this community. This involves not just speaking to what needs to be done, but being involved & ... Read Moreworking at it. I know you will work Troy, and guide others in making contributions as well. I support you in running for Council if a seat becomes available.

No matter who runs there has to be a cooperative team that is willing to work for the betterm ent of the town but also have the courage to stand against what is wrong as well and be able to express and act on those views minus fear of unpopularity making difficult decisions itself comes with its own pitfalls but also builds character and respect from those you represent that those decisions are made knowing that they do not always meet with yes all the time!
